Multifunctional chip card

In cooperation with the administration, the URZ provides university employees with a multifunctional chip card. This primarily functions as a staff ID card and as a key card for the university's electronic access control system. Use of the multifunctional chip card is voluntary. The use of the smart card is compulsory if you need the electronic key card for work purposes (e.g. for access to offices).

Card loss

If a cardholder loses their multifunctional chip card, the loss must be reported immediately to the following hotline. To block the card, you will need your URZ user name:

+49 3834 420 CARD

+49 3834 420 2273

Alternatively, the loss can be reported in the ticket system.

Card issue and return

The multifunctional chip card is issued and returned to all university employees by the Planning and Construction Department. Guests who require access to organisational units receive the corresponding guest cards directly from the organisational unit and return them there.

Terms of use for the chip card

The multifunctional chip cards are personalised cards, meaning that they are only issued after an identity check has been carried out. The time of issue is recorded. When the multifunctional chip card is issued, the future cardholder is also provided with the following terms of use for the chip card, which must be confirmed by signature.

  • The chip cards are the property of the university. They are only provided on a temporary basis after proof of identity and must be protected against misuse and theft. They may not be passed on to third parties.
  • A contractor (e.g. building company, facility management provider, etc.) who has received several chip cards for its employees to carry out services on the university premises must always be able to prove which of its employees has which chip card(s) in their possession at what time.
  • Chip cards must not bear any indication of their use (e.g. by means of tags, labels, or similar).
  • Damage to or loss of chip cards must be reported immediately to the office of issue. In the event of culpable loss, the recipient may be held liable for the damage incurred. Contractors are liable for their employees. Compensation for damages includes the cost of replacement which amounts to 15 EUR (including cardholder and extendable lanyard).
  • Once the tasks at the university have been completed, the chip cards and any accessories (cardholders, lanyards) must be returned immediately to the office of issue.
  • The chip cards have a credit top-up and payment function. If the card is lost, no claims can be made against the university with regard to the credit amount. The credit balance must be used up or withdrawn before the card is returned.
