Information on handling the user account

Your account belongs only to you

Your central user account at the URZ is a personal account. It allows you to log in to all central IT systems of the University of Greifswald, such as the e-mail system, the WLAN or the self-service portal.

If your access data (user name and password) fall into the hands of third parties, they can use the IT services in your name, which can cause damage to you and the University.

Better safe than sorry!

In order to protect you and the University of Greifswald, it is not permitted to pass on your central access data to third parties. Please refer to §6 para. 2 point 5 of the URZ user regulations.

This means that, among other things, it is not permitted to transmit your user ID and password to IT services that are not assigned to the University of Greifswald. These may be websites, software applications or smartphone apps.

Consequences

The University Computer Centre regularly checks its IT services for suspicious access. If your user account is demonstrably used by third parties to access the University of Greifswald's IT environment, your user account will be blocked immediately. If this unauthorised access continues after the user has been instructed and the user account has been activated, your permission to use URZ services may be permanently withdrawn.
